The Tosh throw is worked from side to side. Because it doesn’t have a border (although you can certainly add one if you like), it’s important that the edges look “finished.” To achieve this, stacked single crochets are used in place of turning chains. The result is a neat and slightly wavy edge. If you prefer straighter edges, you can block the throw once completed.
The pattern is a four-row repeat: a half double crochet row, a star stitch row, another half double crochet row (which completes the star stitch), and a double crochet row. You can change the finished length of the throw by adding or subtracting stitches (making sure you have an even number of chains); likewise, you can change the finished width of the throw by adding or subtracting one or more 4-row repeats. You should always end on a double crochet row. This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner.
